SEPTEMBER 2024 – The Chapel of Trees, a visual poem by Julian Velez (AIE Collective) and Savannah James.
Three years ago I moved back to America after nearly a year in Italy. I was living at my parent’s house in South Florida with no plan for the future. Every morning, I’d make a coffee and sit under the oaks that cradle the front yard and try to figure it out. I’d scribble poems and doodles into my notebook, trying to convince myself the unknown was an opportunity rather than something to resolve. Then one morning a sense of relief came over me when I looked up at the spanning branches and said to myself, “I am in a chapel of trees.” And a poem was born.
I see this as a meditation + dedication to my connection with the Earth, and the awe pure presence yields.
